Definitions

Clinical supervisors must adhere to all state board regulations and maintain active licensure in one of the following categories: Licensed Professional Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Art Therapist, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor, Licensed Psychiatrist, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatry, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, and Licensed Psychologist.

Those who are under supervision must have completed all necessary requirements for their licensure type. Some agencies and programs may require background checks on persons rendering services. The non-independently licensed provider scope of practice includes the following: rendering social work and/or counseling related services, which may include evaluation, assessment, consultation, diagnosing, development of treatment plans, client-centered advocacy, case management and referral; appraisal; crisis intervention education; reporting; and record-keeping for individuals, couples, families or groups as defined by rule and New Mexico Statutes ( Counselors Scope of Practice 61-9A-5, Social workers Scope of Practice 61-31-6). Additional guidelines or rules may be required by the respective professional licensing board which must be followed.

The Human Services Department, Behavioral Health Services Division is committed to supporting our behavioral health workforce to strengthen the operational, organizational, and leadership capacity for all State of New Mexico behavioral health organizations. One way HSD-BHSD is doing this is through a partnership with ENVIVE Solutions. ENVIVE is providing a series of leadership workshops and one-on-one or group coaching to New Mexico Behavioral Health leaders and emerging leaders including Counselors, Social Workers, and Certified Peer Support Workers. Funded by The Human Services Department, Behavioral Health Services Division, workshops (which include free CEUs) and coaching are free for New Mexico providers.

Online learning modules from BHSD’s Leadership and Organizational Development Series are now available. ENVIVE Solutions and BHSD have worked together to develop live workshops and online modules to help support our Behavioral Health leaders.

Online learning modules are FREE to all New Mexico-based Behavioral Health professionals and available to access on-demand. Upon completion, each offers 1.5 CEUs approved by New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board Provider. Counselors, Social Workers and CPSWs are eligible for 1.5 CEUs. The National Council for Behavioral Health –
